New Kingdom Related Projects - Scotty Hard
Scott Harding (a.k.a. Scotty Hard) is a native of Canada. Following involvement in Vancouver's independent, alternative music scene he moved to New York City at the end of the 80s to join the hip hop revolution flourishing there.
During his years working at the Calliope Studios Scotty worked with such artists as Prince Paul, De La Soul, the Jungle Brothers, Ultramagnetic MC's, Jazzy Jay, DJ Mark the 45 King, Stetsasonic, Brand Nubian, Black Sheep, Louie Vega, Fat Joe, Stereo MC's, PM Dawn, Major Force Posse, and The Lifer's Group.
In 1990, Scotty met Jason Furlow and Sebastian Laws who were just forming the group New Kingdom. Scotty produced their first demo and eventually their two critically-acclaimed albums for Gee Street Records, also playing electric guitar in New Kingdom's live shows.
Following his years with New Kingdom, Scotty and Sebastian went on to form Truck Stop. As well as Truck Stop, he went on to release his first solo work - Kill Dog E, once more featuring Sebastian Laws and a host of hip hop artists from the acclaimed Wordsound label where he'd contributed to a number of LPs.
In the late 90s, Scotty increasingly began working with jazz artists like Medeski, Martin & Wood and Sex Mob. In late 2004, Hard began work with John Medeski and Matthew Shipp, releasing the collaborative Scotty Hard's Radical Reconstructive Surgery in October 2006.

Scotty Hard struts his stuff in an admirable style on his debut LP. Great beats, scuzzy sounds and an engaging concept make this a winner. Keep an ear out for a reworking of an early New Kingdom track - Spittin' In The Eye Of The World, not heard since New Kingdom's Rocket 500 Demo, vocals by Sebastian Laws.
